Who is Nina?

The Logo for my first blog, RIP

Hi, I’m Nina, and I was born in the most midwestern part of the United States you can imagine, East-Central Illinois. I’m 43 as of 2010, Childless (by choice), Single (totally by choice), and living on the coast of Northern California. Surprisingly, I’m (mostly) heterosexual.  I’m mixed race Black and Caucasian, and I’m a proud and active Progressive Leftist. Should you wish to purchase any of my jewelry, I want you to know that’s what (and who) you support. That said, I place people before politics at all times.

Me in '67, fist in the air, declaring All Power to the People

When I was around 22, a bead store opened in the California town I lived in at the time. It mostly had glass and acrylic beads, but I fell in love with the power of creation when I made my first necklace. Since then I’ve been making jewelry. I haven’t been making jewelry all that time, but it’s never left my heart.

Around ten years ago, I fell in love with gemstones. I’ve come to believe that part of my love is genetic; gemstones are natural things, and my family loves nature.  We love nature so much that we even love all the imperfections that nature has to offer; perhaps because those imperfections mirror the variety and imperfection of humanity itself.

My new-found love had me actually working in a bead store for a while. There, I learned even more about gemstones, pearls, bone, horn, shell, metals, as well as variety of techniques for jewelry construction.

Today I make beautiful jewelry out of beautiful materials and put them on beautiful people. I can’t think of a better way to spend my time.

  1. Hi Nina,

I didn’t know this was your site. Looks good and I’ll get it on my blogroll soon. I’m still figuring out how to do all that. You’re in Northern California? I’m in Modesto, Central Valley. Very stinking RED and very conservative. Maybe that’s why I’m so rabid against tcot types. They surround me!

Anyway, thanks for your comments on my site.

    Cheers!
    Ron

Hey Ron, welcome to my casbah!

Yeah – this is it, but I’ve been inactive and a little shut down – it should turn around when things get less hectic – much making of jewelry for the Holiday season. It’s wild – I was just on your site the other day! I’m glad you’re out there fighting the good fight where the real bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling reside. Hang tough, man…

PS: If you want a killer deal (like 50 percent kinda deal) on any jewelry for the Holidays, just email me. My political junkie peeps get the “Santa Cruz Local” deep discount. :)
